Summer Courses 2008

Iron Flute: A Study of Koans
Huang Po, a great Zen teacher of the T'ang Dynasty said, "The enlightened mind is like a blazing fire." The subtle brilliance of Zen teaching expresses itself in the succinct yet profound stories that were compiled in 1783 by Soto Zen teacher Genro under the title, The Iron Flute. In this lesser known koan collection, we are reminded that the illumination and understanding that we seek in our ignorance burns endlessly bright before us. We simply need to open our eyes and look.

Both poets sensitize us to the beauty that radiates from the joys and sorrows of living with all beings.
