The Middle Way Plain and Simple: Nagarjuna's Verses on the Middle Way, part two
Nagarjuna stands out as the giant among giants, whose teachings form the foundation for not only Zen, but for all the Mahayana schools. All the sutras of the Mahayana rest upon his teaching. Nagarjuna's writings, to quote Buddhist scholar Kenneth Inada, "though subtle and profound, carried such deep understanding ... that they will influence ... all or most of the subsequent Mahayana developments in India, China, Tibet, Korea, and Japan. His supreme position has stood firm for centuries. ... He was, in short, considered to be the second Buddha. ..."
In this, the second of two courses, we will examine essential passages from Nagarjuna's masterwork, Mulamadhyamakakarika--Fundamental Verses on the Middle Way.
