SUMMER POETRY COURSE--Seeing through Words: The Poetry of Jane Hirshfield
“We feel something stir, shiver, swim its way into the world when a good poem opens its eyes,” says the poet Jane Hirshfield in Ten Windows, her book of essays on poetry. “Good poetry and good seeing,” she continues, "go together almost always.” Jane Hirshfield — poet, scholar, essayist, and longtime practicing Buddhist — offers a wealth of seeing in her prolific output of poems, translations, and essays. This course will explore her poetry and her writing on poetry. Selected texts will include her newest book of poetry, The Beauty, as well as her most recent book of essays, Ten Windows: How Great Poems Transform the World.
