In this class we will look at the life and poetry of the Japanese mendicant monk/poet Ryōkan (1758-1831). His poems are deep, insightful, and subtle, and he lived his life with warm-heartedness, openness, and spontaneity. He is one of the most beloved individuals in Japanese literature.
